Victor Hugo Prints
SOLD OUT
In celebration of Victor Hugo and the release of our two new editions of
his books, we are pleased to offer these elegant 13x19 Giclée* prints. The paper is
heavy, bright white archival matte imported from Japan, designed for optimal image
reproduction and long-lasting fade resistance when combined with archival ink
It is widely used for better fine art prints.
*In comparison to offset printing, Giclée is a slower and more
meticulous one-at-a-time printing process reminiscent of 19th Century lithography but with
the advantage of computer accuracy to bring out the detail and beauty of the original. It
is the same process we used to produce the Gaetano prints.

Portrait of Victor Hugo.Based on a
rare original early 19th Century engraving, this dramatic portrait shows the intensity of
Victor Hugo as a young man. Most images of Victor Hugo are from later in his life, when
after having suffered great personal tragedies and exile, he often seems worn and tired.
This in contrast conveys the Victor Hugo who was destined to become the greatest French
writer of the 19th Century. $35 SOLD OUT

The Man
Who Laughs. Based on an original illustration from a rare 19th Century book, this
is one of the few illustrations of Gwynplaine which fully conveys his nobility and
courage. It is from the scene where he addresses the House of Lords and confronts their
outrage and derision. It might be subtitled, " the man who stands alone".
Like the original, the image has a brownish sepia-like hue. $35 SOLD OUT
